Amsterdam to Praha by train

Amsterdam to Praha by train

Can you get from the Amsterdam, Netherlands to Praha, Czech Republic by train within 1 day? Yes, you definitely can! There is an option to travel overnight or during the day. I’ve listed both below. Because these are long-distance trains, don’t forget to book a ticket and seat reservation in advance. Night trains do not run every day, so take this into account when planning your trip.

Option 1 (overnight) – 12.50 hours, 0 changes

Amsterdam > Praha

The easiest way to get to Praha is by taking a night train. It means you don’t ‘lose’ time travelling, because you will be asleep for the most part. Really, it’s a hostel stay and transportation in one. The night trains on this route are operated by European Sleeper and fall within the Interrail network. This means that you can book a seat/bed reservation instead of paying for a full ticket when you have an Interrail pass. Currently, the overnight trains to from Amsterdam to Praha run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Option 2 – 11.23 hours, 1 change

Amsterdam > Berlin > Praha

You can typically take this route twice a day. I recommend choosing the earliest option in case the first train is delayed, so you can always divert to later option for the second train from Berlin to Praha. When I travelled on this route, the first train was cancelled, causing a 2 hour delay. I still made it to Praha within 1 day because I was meant to take the earliest option, but it was quite stressful trying to figure out at which station in Berlin to change trains, in order to be on time for the connecting train. To avoid such a scenario, you can stay in Berlin for at least one night before travelling onwards to Czech Republic.

Travelling from elsewhere in the Netherlands or Belgium

You can board the overnight train at multiple stations throughout the Netherlands and Belgium: Brussel, Antwerpen, Roosendaal, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Amsterdam, Amersfoort and Deventer. When you travel during the day, the train to Berlin also stops at Hilversum, Amersfoort, Apeldoorn, Deventer or Hengelo.
