Sustainable accommodation

On this page you can find all of my travel tips relating to sustainable accommodation. These tips show you how to find and book independent, environmentally friendly accommodations. Each tip links to an Instagram post or blog post with more information.

Most of these tips will be small, easy-to-implement actions. I recommend starting with the ones that seem most feasible to you. It’s always better to take just one small action than it is to do nothing at all, because every small change makes a difference!

Green accommodations

• Look for certifications
• Find small-scale hotels and hostels
• Go for a room in a homestay
• Swap houses with family or friends

Hotel stays

• Turn off the heating and airconditioning
• Reuse towels and bedsheets
• Turn off devices at night

This checklist helps to make sure you use your hotel room in a sustainable way. I also regularly share reviews of eco hotels I have stayed at and would recommend to others.

Taking up less space

• Rent a room instead of an entire house or apartment
• Use all of the beds
• Pick a smaller room
